App privacy policy

GigClick is a metronome app for musicians, developed and published by Matt, a drummer (contact: support@gigclickapp.com).

This policy covers the GigClick apps for Android and for iPhone and iPad. Most of it applies to both; where they differ, each platform has its own section below. The website has a separate privacy policy.

The short version

GigClick does not send your songs or setlists to the developer. Share click exchanges stage information with joined phones on your local network. On Android, the optional QR joining uses Google Code Scanner, which collects technical and usage data. On iPhone and iPad, QR codes are read on the device and nothing is sent anywhere.

Both platforms

• No developer-run analytics. GigClick does not send your library, usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry to the developer.
• No accounts. The app has no sign-up, login, or user accounts.
• Share click uses your local network. When you start or join a Share click session, GigClick communicates directly with the other joined phones on the same Wi-Fi network or hotspot. It exchanges click timing and settings and may share the current and next song titles, song notes, BPM, setlist name, and setlist position so every player sees the same stage information. The joining code keeps phones without the code from participating and lets the app reject altered messages, but the local network traffic is not encrypted. Other people or systems with access to the same network may be able to read it, so do not put sensitive information in song or setlist names or notes while using Share click. This information is not sent to the developer or an internet server. The app does not scan for nearby phones: another phone connects using the leader's address and joining code, entered manually or transferred by QR code.
• No advertising. The app contains no ads or advertising SDKs.
• Library stored on your device. Your songs, setlists, and settings are stored on your device; Share click sends only the session information described above to joined phones. Uninstalling the app deletes your local library.
• Exports. Backup files and setlist PDFs are created only when you explicitly choose to export them, and are written to the location you pick. Where you store or share those files is under your control; GigClick never uploads them anywhere.

On Android

• QR code scanning. The Share click screen initializes Google Code Scanner, a Google Play services component used for optional QR joining. If you scan a code, the image is processed on your device; Google says it does not store the image or scan result. Google says the scanner collects device and app information, identifiers, performance measurements, and scanner events for diagnostics and usage analytics. Because GigClick enables auto-zoom, scanner session and zoom-event data may also be collected. Google says it encrypts this data in transit and does not share it with third parties. This data goes to Google, not to the developer. You can enter the leader's address and joining code without scanning, but opening Share click also initializes the scanner. • Backups. Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are turned off for GigClick, so your library is not copied to Google's backup or to a new phone. To move it, use Export backup and Import backup in Settings.
• Permissions. GigClick uses notification permission for playback controls shown while the metronome runs in the background. Network permission enables direct communication during a Share click session; Wi-Fi-state permissions let the app keep that connection responsive; and the network-state permission lets the leader phone show its Wi-Fi or hotspot address rather than a VPN or mobile-data one.

On iPhone and iPad

• QR code scanning. Share click can use the camera to read the leader's QR code. iOS reads the code on your device; the image is not stored or sent anywhere. You can enter the leader's address and joining code instead of scanning.
• Backups. Your songs, setlists, and settings are included in your iPhone or iPad backups, in iCloud or on your computer, like other app data. Apple stores those backups under your Apple Account; the developer cannot see them. The identity GigClick uses to take part in Share click is kept out of backups.
• Permissions. iOS asks for Local Network access the first time this device joins a Share click session; GigClick uses it only to communicate with the other joined phones. The camera is used only if you choose to scan a QR code. A device waiting to join keeps GigClick on screen: the app does not keep a Share click connection running in the background while it waits. Lock-screen playback controls come from iOS, so GigClick does not ask for notification permission.

Children

GigClick is for musicians of all ages. It does not ask for personal information or send your library to the developer. Share click and QR scanning handle data as described above; do not put personal information in song or setlist names or notes that you share. The app has no ads, in-app purchases or accounts.

Changes

If the app's privacy practices change (for example, if a future version sends information through an internet service), the updated app policy will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
